2024 Experiential Learning Poster Presentations
Each August, Caldwell Fellows gather to share what they've learned in hands-on activities around the world.
After a summer spent traveling, interning, and exploring new opportunities, the Caldwell Fellows returned to Talley Student Union to reconnect and share their summer experiences. Each year, many fellows utilize their Experiential Learning Grant (ELG), often choosing the summer period to immerse themselves fully in their chosen activities, ranging from internships and co-ops to international travel and local service work.
To showcase their learning journeys, each fellow who completed an ELG designed a poster that visualized and communicated their experiences. The poster session was set up in a salon-style format, allowing for one-on-one interactions as attendees moved through the open gallery space. This setting provided a great opportunity for sharing insights and ideas, particularly for those fellows looking to undertake similar experiences in the future.
Following two rounds of presentations, the Fellows gathered for the second half of the seminar to learn about what’s new in the program and hear about the summer trips. The dinner seminars, which are a cornerstone of Caldwell Fellows programming, encourage students to reflect on current topics, share personal insights, and connect with their peers. This seminar opened with words of gratitude from Lucy Polzin, Class of 2025, who expressed gratitude for the strong sense of community that the program fosters.
Each year, the student-run dinner team selects a theme to guide the seminars. This year’s theme, introduced by Camille Dunn, Class of 2027, is “Citizenship.” The theme goes beyond political connotations, encouraging fellows to reflect on their roles as citizens of their communities, teams, and personal lives. Through thoughtful discussions, activities, and guest speakers, this theme aims to inspire students to critically engage with the world around them.
The August seminar also highlighted two major trips undertaken by the Caldwell Fellows over the summer: the Camino Trip and the Wilderness Expedition. Fellows shared photos and stories from their adventures, reflecting on the lessons learned along the way. Looking ahead, the program announced exciting upcoming trips, including an urban adventure in New York and a journey to Japan with alumni Stephen Sumner, Class of 1996.
As the academic year begins, the Caldwell Fellows are energized by their shared experiences and ready to dive into the upcoming year’s programming, with the theme of “Citizenship” setting the stage for deep reflection and meaningful engagement.
