Caldwells in Mexico

Caldwells in Guanajuato and Pozos

For our second summer abroad program in 2016 seven Caldwell Fellows, along with Director, Janice Odom, and Melissa Edwards Smith from Global Training Initiative at NC State, are immersed in the rich and vibrant culture of Mexico and the beautiful colonial-era city of Guanajuato, Mexico.  Declared a UNESCO world heritage site, it is one of the most picturesque cities in Mexico. The students are spending the first three days in the historic center absorbed in the acclaimed architecture, food, music, art and dance. On July 8 they move to the small town of Minerale de Pozos to experience homestays with families in Pozos who help draw their livelihood from the hospitality they provide to the guests to their community. While living with local families the students will also engage in hands-on work toward the ongoing project of bringing the infrastructure for water supply to homes in the community of Pozos.  This effort is a project of the International Water Security Network www.watersecuritynetwork.org/research/transboundary-water-security/
