Twenty-three Caldwell Fellows students and seven leaders (six Caldwell alumni and Jerry Barker) returned Sunday and Monday from trips to the Lost Coast of northern California and the western portion of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail in North Carolina. Two teams of 8 plus 5 leaders tackled west coast sand and water, while a team of 7 and 2 leaders in NC ascended and descended their mountainous trail. Challenges, both mental and physical, and plenty of fun were experienced by all. The CA group brought an actual buoy signed by all back to the Caldwell office as a souvenir! Check the Caldwell Fellows Facebook page for more stories. As soon as the Wilderness groups returned Dr. Janice Odom and eight Caldwells and two of our Caldwell coaches left for Spain for three weeks on the Camino de Santiago de Campostelo.
On Friday morning, May 6, the Caldwell Fellows Class of 2016 was recognized for their completion of the program at a breakfast at the McKimmon Center attended by their families, special guests and endowers. They shared plans for summer trips, research and internships, graduate school, full-time jobs and fifth years at NC State. Even though they have officially graduated from the Caldwell Fellows three-and-a-half year program, we look forward to welcoming them back again and again as Caldwell Fellows alumni.
